Yesterday I was discussing the dawn effect, and how this can cause fasting blood sugar levels to be higher than may be expected. I commented that two of the things I need to do was to make sure I don’t eat after 9pm, and to try and go to bed around 11pm.

Well I managed one of them! I was in bed by around 1am! Yesterday when I came home my new exercise bike had been delivered so I spent the first 30+ mins putting that together. I had some washers left over at the end and realised I hadn’t put these on the feet but decided they were fine without and I really could not be bothered to take it apart again to put them on! After that I had to test it of course, so after a 3KM cycle, I was quite tired and didn’t feel to great. It was after 7 by this time and I wanted something hot to eat but didn’t feel up to making anything so ordered takeaway. Carefully selecting fish and meat starters so there would be less carbs – I still actually have some left in my fridge. Sure this was a veggie free meal – but I do usually have plenty of veggies so I decided this wasn’t too bad. Actually it did come with a side of salad so there is that!

Anyway, the purpose of that “drifting off topic” was to say that I ate around 8:20 – and didn’t touch a drop of food after that. I did have some diet soda but there are no carbs in that. In fact there is no anything in that – no nutritional value at all – but it is wet – contains mostly water. Another sidetrack here – one of the things that annoys me most about the reasons against drinking diet soda is that it contains no nutritional value. Neither does water!

So, with dinner out the way, and 7km of cycling done, I sat down to play Final Fantasy XIV. Currently I find myself just wanting to get that bit more done! I feel this will be less of a problem once I reach max level and have finished the main story scenario….. although then there will be other class abilities to level up (but they wont have a main story scenario as that will have been done so there are less “milestones” to measure. Either way – this got me to bed at 1am as “just this bit more” always proves to take longer than estimated.

The real point of this post though – lost as it is in inane ramblings is that due (I believe) to not eating after 9pm, my blood sugar this morning was a very healthy 5.5 mmol/L which is in the normal range. Still need to measure my postprandial blood sugar which I will do around 9:45 (I didn’t eat my breakfast of two slices of peanut butter on toast) until around 8:15 when I got to work.

Hopefully today will be a good day!
